Time flew!I’ll check in and catch you all up on the goings on behind Liminal Chronicles and whatnot.
The Spring of Insanity!
Along with May’s book release, there was my daughter’s high school graduation, her trip to Canada, and her 18th birthday. Boom, boom, boom—all close together. (This was all after a fab trip to Japan and Camp Nano/Tourney of Tales writing events this spring.) Add in having to put down a beloved pet and my husband’s job requiring him to travel more. Much of this spring was amazing, despite some heartbreak. But, slowing down was a must and since the end of May, the constant go, go, go put me into survival mode.
Recharge Challenge
Knowing I’d need to recoup, I led a tiny and simple challenge I called the Recharge Challenge. We focused on giving ourselves input to counteract the constant output demands on creatives. While the official challenge is over, you can still do your own version to refresh yourself and your muse.
Here’s a few things I did to slow down.
I listened to a book I’d been really looking forward to the urban fantasy By a Silver Thread by Rachel Aaron. I really enjoyed it, as I have with her Heartbreaker series and the DFZ series.
Played Pokemon Go (it gets me outside) and joined the Silph Road research group. The Silph Road website may be shut down, but the research team and the Reddit group are both alive and well!
Finally, watched D&D: Honor Among Thieves. What a riot!
Reorganized articles on the Liminal Chronicles site, added icons for the categories, and made plans for July. (This kind of simple task is really relaxing and rewarding for me.)
July Plans
Again, I’ll participate in Tourney of Tales and World Anvil Summer Camp. This means more worldbuilding and research for book 3. Woot! I also hope to record more audio for the short stories I’ve already written. Reading aloud and listening to stories are a passion of mine. So, this just seems natural to try for at least one more next month.
I have one recorded story in the wings - "The Mountain with Eyes”. But I need time to go through it again to be sure I’m satisfied with the audio. In the meantime, if you’re curious it’s here.
That particular story was originally published in my very short story zine called In Threads. And we’ll be looking at trying to get another issue out in July or August at the latest.
July will be full of fun and I think I’m ready!
Should I do another Recharge Challenge after next month?
